LAA Event Policies

The Learning Assistant Alliance (LAA) is committed to providing a productive and safe experience for all in-person and virtual participants of all LAA events or affiliates, regardless of sex, race, color, personal appearance, national origin, religion, age, physical disability, mental disability, perceived disability, medical condition, ancestry, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, veteran status, or any other basis protected by federal or applicable state laws or local ordinances. The LAA does not tolerate discrimination or any form of harassment, and is committed to enforcing this code of conduct at and through all LAA sponsored efforts. The LAA is committed to providing an atmosphere that encourages the free expression and exchange of scientific and educational ideas.

The Learning Assistant Alliance (LAA) is dedicated to providing harassment-free workshop or conference experiences for everyone. We do not tolerate harassment of conference participants in any form. Sexual language and imagery is not appropriate for any LAA event venue (in person or online), including talks, workshops, social events, Twitter and other online media. The event organizers reserve the right to sanction or expel conference participants violating these rules, without a refund, at their discretion.

Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion, technology choices, sexual images in public virtual spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, physically following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of talks or other events, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention. Harassment also includes advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above behavior.

Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.

If a participant engages in harassing behavior, the event organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender or expulsion from the event with no refund.

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please either make a report using this Incident Reporting Form or contact the LAA leadership (contact@learningassistantalliance.org). Harassment and other code of conduct violations reduce the value of our event for everyone.

Event staff will assist those experiencing harassment to feel safer for the duration of the conference. We value your participation.

We expect participants to follow these rules at conference and workshop venues and conference-related social events.

If you have any questions or concerns before, during, or after the event, please contact the LAA leadership at contact@learningassistantalliance.org.

The LAA makes every attempt to accommodate participants' changes in plans that affect event registration. Most LAA events offer a generous full refund process, followed by last-minute cancellation fees to cover any non-refundable event costs. Unfortunately, we are not able to refund registration fees due to complications with travel plans, so we highly encourage you to consider purchasing travel insurance to cover these kinds of events. Find event-specific guidelines listed on the registration site for each workshop or conference.
